Horton Hears a Who

Picture to yourself a woman – a mother, who homeschools her child and is active in her community, trying to keep up the moral standards of society, is concerned about education and protecting the innocence of their children, even alerting other families and acting as a leader in confronting those who she considers a threat.

This person (or rather, kangaroo) is the villain in the children’s movie “Horton Hears a Who.” Sadly, for I had heard much of its moving pro-life message, I have to say it is running on a rather obvious agenda. Oh well.

(And the whole idea behind the story seems to suggest that all mysteries of the universe can be empirically solved. An imperceptible being is not spiritual, but merely smaller than the perceiver can notice. An immensely powerful and caring being is not divine, but merely an elephant in outer space. But all this is a digression; this tendency to reduce all to the material doesn’t have the same insulting purposefulness as the description of the antagonist.)

  1. Hmm… I never watched the movie, so I can’t say much about the points made. I had a different thought about this movie, though… Maybe it’s teaching people to believe in something even if they might not be able to see it… God, miracles, etc.

Then again, I seem to be good at relating just about anything to God and make it look/sound like they are about God.
